what's your budget? do you actually care about design or are you all about functionality?

lcd
+cheapest
+low energy consumption
+pretty damn thin/light
- bad glare
- bad image quality
-bad viewing angle
plasma
+almost no glare
+ best viewing angle
+ probably the truest 'black'
+ great image
- heavy/thick
-power hungry
-more expensive then lcd, cheaper then led
led
+all the pros of plasma/lcd
-most expensive
-------------------
50 inch to 60 inch is a pretty big jump in price...
try to stick to known brands.
I personally wouldn't buy anything but a plasma but that's me. I bought mine 2 years ago when led's were just coming out so I don't know as much about them . From what I hear, plasma still has the best image of any of the types and that is by far my biggest factor.
If you need to be more mobile then led's might be more up your alley because a good plasma is not something you are going to want to move around alot...

my budget is prolly max around 1500, unless theres a crazy amazing tv for more
dont really care about design, just functionality, need something that looks good, is big, 60hz, mutliple hdmi inputs, digital out, and component, vga/dvi if possible
dont really want a plasma becuase that burn in shit, i know theyve gone a long ways and they have like screensavers n shit but i have a habit of letting my shit stay on for hours and i wanna be able to still see it not some screensaver
im guessing LED then, any good models at the moment, good brands like philips, samsung
also you guys know any good websites for reviews/recommendations
all this shit is gonna run is 360/ps3/wii games, and stream shit from my media pc, it might do tv later but prolly not

i heard samsung has shitty response time which is my main motivator since this shit is for teh games
I'm going to assume that plasma is out the window are now down to lcd and led. Throw out lcd because well, shitty image. Again, I'm going to assume that image quality and viewing angles are your number one
Looking at your budget, anything bigger then 55 inches is probably going to lead to a shitty tv.
55 inch is a very popular size of LED and there are a ton of models out there. You can probably find a 4-4.5 out of 5 start tv if you want to spend all 1500 on a 55 inch.
If you look in the ~50 inch then you are probably looking at 4.5-5 star rated tv.
Samsung and sony seem to be dominating the market in LED's.
Also, local dimming is the key buzzword when looking at leds. The high end samsung have great response time and are great for gaming.

You can usually find out the response time on tvs. For no smearing for games/movies you'll want something around ~6ms. I don't know if they rate tvs like that but monitors they do (I haven't had a tv in 10 years).
If you look at review sites, samsung is usually in the top 3 for LED's, if not always in the top. Sony's bravia comes in also but you will always pay more for sony then another brand.

click the see all spec's link in the led compare in the upper right corner. For gaming, check out the clear motion rate, which is a fancy term for refresh rate. The compare chart will be your bible to find the right TV to price ratio.
to do price look up for samsung, it's UNso for example UN55D6300, which is the best non 3d 55 inch you can get. If you look at the chart, you can see what sizes they have for that product line so it's extremely easy to google some price look ups. Samsung has made it very very easy to find the Tv is you just look at the chart and then google the price look ups. The one I mentioned above clocks in right around 1500...
I can't find another brand that is as easy to dig through the fricken spec sheets to really find what you are looking for. There is so much technobabble on most sites that it is impossible to figure out how to buy a TV.
I would not buy a 3d tv yet but that is just me.
You might want to look at tv size + viewing distance. The bigger the TV, the further you have to sit from it to get a clear picture. If its big and you have to sit close, it will look like crap no matter what you get.
I have a 42inch Plasma LG and it's fine from about 10ft, but i could of prob went 47-50ish.
Also, LCDs get more expensive the bigger they are, and plasma prices will be less at bigger sizes and more at smaller vs LCD. I don't think plasma will burn in w/ or w/o a screen saver nowadays. Plasma is typically for more motion (faster refresh rates) but if you get an LCD, make sure you get 120Hz not 60 and you should be good, although they have 240 for LED-LCD ones now.
I've ordered a few TVs from newegg.com and had no issues. Amazon usually has good deals as well. Plus both sites are good with reviews.
